WMIF MAIN SITEDr. Mazitschek is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of the Chemical Biology Platform at the Center for Systems Biology, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Additionally, he holds positions as Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and as an Associate Member at The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.
Earning his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Leipzig in 2002, Dr. Mazitschek continued his research at Harvard Medical School’s Institute of Chemistry and Cell Biology (ICCB) as a postdoctoral fellow and later, as an Institute Fellow. He joined the Chemical Biology Program at the newly founded Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT to pursue independent research, and in 2008, became a faculty member at the Center for Systems Biology at MGH.
With over 100 peer-reviewed original research publications and more than 50 issued patents to his name, Dr. Mazitschek has also co-founded three biopharmaceutical companies: SHAPE Pharmaceuticals, Acetylon Pharmaceuticals, and Regenacy Pharmaceuticals.
His research, which bridges biology and chemistry, focuses on addressing unmet medical needs from a disease-agnostic perspective and encompasses three synergistic areas: 1) Chemogenomic tool and technology development; 2) Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases-targeted drug discovery; and 3) Epigenetic regulators and precision probes.
